Maria Carolina

I am a Portuguese Language teacher, actress, graduated from Teatro Escola Célia Helena, artisan and visual artist with a focus on drawings, paintings and collages on paper. Handicraft has always permeated my doings since the late 1990s.
Between 1994 and 2000, I had two workshops with other artisans, handcrafting fabric bags and paper objects. From 2003 to 2005, I participated in Grupo Braço, with three visual artists, we proposed artistic interventions in public spaces.
In 2008, I resumed work with paper objects, this time using rigid cardboard, I developed very varied and very colorful patterns, and so was born the one for the eyes – very colorful objects. In 2011, I was part of the book Transitivos , a collection of a group of writers who used the blog as a support for their poetic and fictional experiments. I got close to illustration at Laura Teixeira's workshop, at Sesc Pompéia, in 2013, when I produced several sketchbooks. More recently, at the end of 2020, I continued to use objects for the eyes and expanded the application of prints for collages on heavyweight papers. Parallel to this, I drew from the provocations of the artists Adalgisa Campos and Marcia Pastore, in the encounters of Experiences in Drawing (February -June/2021). At the same time, I started experimenting with kraft and craft paper (cotton and kozo leaves), seeking to emulate fabric textures; also, I returned to the clouds – images that have been with me since 2015.
